Pre-Campaign Meeting
Held March 14, Luray
Dr. Guy R. Fisher of Staunton, campaign chairman for the Virginia division, American Cancer Society, will deliver the principal address at the 1950 pre-campaign meeting of District 4 to be held in Luray Tuesday evening, March 14. This meeting will be attended by the group who will organize campaign workers in the counties of Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Page, Warren, Fauquier, and Rappahannock.
Another speaker will be L. H. Peterson of Charlottesville, managing director of the Virginia division. Mrs. Ronald Wilson of Winchester will preside.
Still another feature of the program will be a sound film, “To Save These Lives.’!
At this meeting the group will be given an outline of the past accomplishments of the American Cancer Society, both in Virginia and the nation, and a resume of, the program which the organization wishes to conduct in 1959. Also stress will be laid on the great need for control of cancer, a disease which took the lives of more than 200,000 people in the United States last year. Since 1930 cancer has moved from seventh to second place as a cause of death. Through research, progress is being made in the control of some cancers. Re' searchers hold out hope that their efforts will bring still more control measures, and possibly cure.
