“Every year there are several aciidents as a result of metal strings or kite braces coming in contact with power lines," the spokesman for the utility company said. “These mishaps are entirely avoidable if proper precautions are taken.”
As stated on the safety posters now being distributed to schools in tnis area by the Northern Virginia Power Company, the rules to follow while flying kites are: Keep kities away from electric wires; use dry cotton string only; never use metal on kites; and never climb poles.
The utility company spokesman also warned local residents against flying model airplanes in the vicinity of power lines. These small craft, with their metal control strings, make a hazardous sport if operated near electricitycarrying lines.
In addition to personal safety, the company spoke-man stated that careless use of kites, ami pianos, should they tangle with power lines, could mean disruption of electric service to hospitals, factories, and home-.
