Sheriff JtM St Ullard

Sheriff Lillard, 51, had served as sheriff of Rappahannock conn-7 ' ty for the past nine years, having: been appointed first to the position by Judge J. R. H. Alex* ander to fill the unexpired term, of the former sheriff, Hubert Keyser, who died in April 1>41. Sheriff Lillard had held thd positions of town sergeant and county policeman for a number of years prior to being made sheriff of the county. .

Sheriff Lillard was the son of William Henry and Sarah Nethera Lillard of Rappahannock county. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lilly Manuel Lillard; five brothers and three sisters: Henry B. Lillard of Falls Church, Carroll Lillard of Washington, D. C., Harry Lillard of Boston, Nethers Lillard of Middleburg, Ashby Lillard of Luray, Mrs. Nellie Naide of Elli* eott City, Md* and^JMrs., Kate Petty and Mr*, Anna Jenkins of Washington. •

Funeral services were held at Washington Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Norman J. Flythe and ReV. M. E. Sliger officiating. Interment <was in the family section .of the Masonic cemetery.

Active pallbearers were—William A. Buntin, Guy Burke, R. V. Snead, B. M. Miller, James W. Fletcher, and T. C. Lea. Many friends served- as honorary pallbearers.

Sheriff Lillard was a good public servant and a fine officer. He will be greatly missed by the entire county and he will be remembered by all who knew him for his faithful and efficient service, and his cheerfulness and generosity in lending a helping hand to all in times of need.

Hold Music Festivals

Mrs. Kathryn Wood Cahen presented the Flint Hill, Reager, Amiss ville, Forest Grov*, and Washington schools in a music festival at Washington Tuesday, May 16. *On Wednesday, May 17, the. program for Sperryville, Woodville, and Bell Mead schools was held at Sperryville.

Every grade in each school presented creditable performances in their parts of the festival. The entire program of each day was well executed and showed bow much time and-effort had been put forth in order to present the fine programs.

Teachers, pupils, and the music supervisor all deserve commendation for their excellent work.
