Resolution of Respect

WHEREAS, James Marshall Lilia, d, who served from March 11, 1925, as Special Officer of Rappahannock County 'until his appointment as Sheriff of Rappahannock County on May 12, 1941, departed this life on the 14th day of May, 1950, and

WHEREAS, during his career of twenty-five years as an officer in Rappahannock Sheriff' Lillard gained and deserved the reputation of beng an able, conscientious, fair and diligent officer and won the confidence and respect of all of those who knew and worked with him, and

WHEREAS, in addition to his ability as an officer he was fair and forgiving and was tolerant to those who suffered from misfortunes or afflictions and gave his time as a patriotic and loyal citizen to all civic affairs in the community, and

WHEREAS, the Members of the Rappahannock County Bar and the Officers of the Court wish to record the sentiments which they and the community entertain upon Sheriff Lillard’s passing;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That in the death of Sheriff James M. Lillard, the Members of the Bar of Rappahannock County and the Officers of the Court have lost an able and efficient officer and colleague and they and the community as a whole have suffered the loss of an outstanding citizen and officer, whose place therein it will be difficult to fill.

It is further directed that' a copy of this resolution be sent to - Lily Manuel Lillard, widow of Sheriff Lillard, and that this order 'be placed upon the permanent records of this Court, and that this Court do now adjourn until May 18th out of respect for the ./deceased. *. , ’-JGiVen
