For Spelling Bee Friday
From throughout the' county, folks will collect Friday night, June 30, at 8 o’clock in the hign school auditorium at Washington to battle each other in the Spelling Bee and argue with Webster..
A preacher will call the words and another will be a pudge, but it’s not on Sunday and they are not in church, so they might as well be prepared for trouble. Opinions on spelling do not always agree with Webster and there had better be several dictionaries present to prove the right way.
Among those preparing themselves to be declared the champion speller of the county are: Mrs. Mary Edna Schaeffer, Ned Johnson, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, Or. J. P. Snead, Mrs. Mary Botts Quaintance, Prof. H. B. Winfrey, Mrs. Ann Menefee, from Sperryville; from Washington, Mrs, W. L. Keyser, Rayner Snead, Mrs. B. R. Cox, Mrs. Matilda Walker, Mrs. George Davis, W. F. Moffett, Jr., Mr. Willie Compton, Miss Marga.rat Compton, Mrs. L. V. Merrill, Mrs. E. M. Jones, Mrs. Mildred Litsey, Mrs. D. B. Smith, Mrs. A. M.
