WARREN COOK RETURNS TO NAVY SERVICE
Week-end guests of Capt. and and Mrs. J. P. Cook were their son and grandson, Warren Cook and Jimmie, of Norfolk. Warren Cook has had orders to report for service in the Navy in 15 days.
Capt. and Mrs. Cook had as their guests during the week end Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Walker of Arlington and Mias Margaret Cook of Washington, D. C., On Wednesday, dinner guests of Capt. and Mrs. Cook were Wilbur Cook and Miss Marina DuGulian of .Washington, D. C., Mrs. Warren Eastham and Mrs. W. A. Nuckols of Shsdyside, Md.
P.M.A. Handbook Out
The Rappahannock Cto u n t y handbook for the 1951 Agricultural Conservation Program has been mailed to ail Rappahannock county farmers, it was announced this week.
The handbook lists the conservation practices which the Rappahannock PMA County Committee has selected as the most needed and adaptable to local agriculture, •Mr. Barksdale, the Committee’s chairman said.
The chairman noted that the practices are Very similar to those approved under the 1950 program and emphasize building soil reserves as a defense measure.
Mr. Barksdale said that farmers will be encouraged to stockpile plant food reserves by growing more green manure and cover cropsl Emphasis is also placed on improving pasture lands through the use of. lime, fertilizer, and better seeding.
Rappahannock county farmers will begin signing 1951 ACP worksheets on January 2, 1951. At the same time, they indicate the conservation practices which they intend to carry out, they may also place orders for materials.
