A recent study in Virginia showed that in 19 counties there were 5,090 to 10,000 people per doctor, and in € counties there were over 10,000 people per doctor. Lack of adequate facilities discourages medical personnel from getting into certain areas, and also retards the work of those already there.
The economists say one answer to the problem undoubtedly lies in encouraging youth reared in the country to enter the medical profession.
