Recent surveys show that more thtfn 80 per cent of persons over age 15 have specific polio anti* bodies in their blood, indicating previous and usually unknown infection with polio virus.
It is still a mystery why only a fraction of those infected are disabled. March of Dimes supported scientists in leading institutions throughout America are trying to find ways to protect the susceptible. The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis has spent $13,100,000 for polio research into treatment and prevention.
Scientists feel confident that Marchof Dimes financed research will end in control of infantile paralysis within our lifetime. The people of Rappahannock county can help by increasing their contributions to meet the 1951 need for $50,000,000 throughout the nation. Mrs. T. C. Lea, chairman of Rappahannock wishes to remind the people of the county that the drive for infantile paralysis ended January 31, the cards whfch were mailed have been coming in very slowly.
