Whenever a smarty-pants exhibits hi# extreme ignorance—as he will if you just give him time enough—there flashes to mind a certain sign posted in a business establishment in Rappahannock county: “If you’re so dern smart, why ain’s you rich?”
One of the greatest trials that befalls mankind is having to be polite to a smarty. A true test of your good rearing comes when you have to endure the ravings of the perfect mechanic, the brilliant doctor (minus the M.D.), the master printer, or the best parent. The perfect mechanic changed a tire on an auto once, so he knows all there is to know about a car. The brilliant doctor (minus the M.D.) has just finished reading an article in a magazine on medicine, so he knows all and can diagnose any ill. ' The master printer worked for a week as general fcrrand boy in a print' shop, and he feels qualified to tell the printer exactly how it should be done. The best parent, who can tell you where you made all your mistakes in dealing with jrour offspring, never had any children of his own.
No doubt the farmers and orchardists of the county could sound off oh this same subject when they get visits and advice from some “smarty” who has read aU there is .to know about a farm or orchard, but has neglected to work a single day at the job.

There’s one more famous G.I. in Korea. I hope some of our local boys meet him. That’s the fellow, having just returned from 57 days in part of the Red trap, found a letter from his draft board in Washington, D. C., telling him that he had been classified 4-F. The letter continued, telling the fellow that he.must notify the draft board of any change of address. The soldier says he’s going to be contrary: he’s just going to let them worry about where he is.
