District 4-H Contests

Scheduled In February

i' Pour-H club girls will Tie for district honors, and th« right to compete at the State 4-H achievement day at VPI in June, at three area events in February.

State achievement day, and announcement of winners of expense-paid trips to Chicago, gold watches, and other awards, will be held sometime during the annual state 4-H chort course, June 25 to 30.

Dates of the area contests, and participating counties, are: February 10 in Lynchburg, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Campbell, Amherst, and Nelson counties; February 17 in Roanoke, Allegheny, Henry, Franklirt, Botetourt, Bedford, and Roanoke counties. Contests were held February 3 in Farmville for Fluvanna, Goochland, Cumberland, Prince Edward, and Charlotte counties.

Other area contests are scheduled for March 3 in Staunton and Winchester, and March 1? in Culpeper. Rappahannock girls will go to Culpeper.

Annual Conference Dale*

Set

Dates of several annual events for 1951 on the VPI campus have been announced by L. B. Dietrick, director of the Extension service. - They are: ^

All Star conference, June 23 and 24; Stpte 4-H club short course, June 25-30; rural ministers’ summer school, July 9-13; Institute of rural affairs, August 1-3; garden lovers’ short course, August -10; and the Extension Service conference, August 27-31.

Mrs. Settle Entertains *

At “Locust Grove”-—Luncheon

guests Saturday of Mrs. George Settle at her home “Locust Grove” were Mr. and Mrs. George W. Settle, Jr., Misses Mary, Ann Settle and Nancy Settle, of Powhatan, Miss Jane Brauer of Richmond, Captain Leta Mildred Frank of Camp Lee and Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Amory, of Hilton Village. For dinner that*evening Mrs. Settle had as her guests Mr. and Mrs. Warren Frank, of Luray; Captain Leta M. Frank and Mr. and Mrs. James F. Amory, of Arlington. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Amory Were * over-night guests of Mrs. Settle.

Convalescing At Home

Mrs. James Oden, who has been a patient at the Johnston Nursing Home in Front Royal for some time, is convalescing at her home in Washington.
