Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. J..E. Sutphin, of Winchester, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 29, with a party at their home, for members of their immediate family. \ .The Sutphins were married on January 29, 1901, at Fawcetts Gap, Va., by the Presbyterian minister, the Rev. A. J. Link, of Strasburg. Mrs. Sutphin is the former Miss Lula C. Funkhouser, of Fawcetts Gap. Mr. Sutphin is from Flint Hill, where they resided after their marriage until 1922, when they moved to Winchester. Mr. Sutphin is a retired civil engineer and did much surveying through this section of the States **They have .five daughters: Mrs. Marye S. Jones, ‘Mrs. C. Bruce Harloe, Mrs. D. O. Louderback, Mrs. .W. Godfrey Zirkle, of Winchester, and Mrs. George F. Davis, of Martinsburg, W. Va.

License Rush

The State Division of Motor Vehicles is being alerted for the greatest license plate rush in history.

More than 1,000,000 registration cards are being processed in the rate of 3,700 an hour on two addressing machines, G. F. Joyner, Jr., DMV commissioner, said yesterday.

These cards, necessary before a license can be issued, will be mailed out beginning March 10 so as to reach Virginia car owners before March 15 when the sale will begin.

Accompanying he registration cards will be two application blanks for operators’ licenses just in case they will be needed in the near future. A large percentage of the operators’ permits will expire this year and will have to be renewed, Joyner explained.

One of the application' blanks will be for the male member of the family and the other for his wife should she require one, a DMV official explained.

Along with the mailing out of the 1,090,000 or more registration cards a good size headache is in the making, Joyner reported. The big problem that the DMV has to contend with every year is changed addresses.
