If it brings a penny more than $151,0000, that Will be the highest price ever paid for any book in all history, rare book experts agree.

This Gutenberg Bible is the first substantially complete copy to be unearthed in this century and only the forty-sixth discovered in the past 500 years.

Scribners. Are Owners

It is now the property of Charles Scribner’s Sons, which paid ^between “$106,000 and $151000” for the Bible and is understandably excited about it.

“It is not only the first book and the first edition of the greatest of all books,” says the firm. ‘It is also a masterpiece of the printer’s pre, which has' seldom been equalled and never surpassed. For book collectors, it is of course, the supreme treasure of all treasures. For the ordinary person, in any country, it is one of the greatest monuments of Christendom.”

This two-volume copy has been “lost since 1824, as far*as most collectors were concerned. It was found only a month ago by John Carter, Scribner’s English agent, in a private library of a country house outside of London. Its purchase was finally settled Thursday, and the book was brought to New York bv nlnne.
