(6) General Osterman who looks after Mrs. Gordon’s farm operations brought in soil samples from Hire fields. One sample had a pH „ of 7.1 (believe it or not) and calcium and magnesium content were both very good; Another field was just a litle under this ... no lime needed for several years. A third field was way 'down . . . hungry for lime while two others were border line cases as to present conditions but one of these should have more than the other because of succeeding crops to.be grown.
Now, I have no reason to worry over what these men plan to do. They • will spend their fertilizer and lime dollars wisely. They will make sound use &f aid and material available through our local PM. program. These results are a cross section of tests made just recently by men who .are operating their farms ih the PMA program. They show„ as a result of PMA materials used in years past, that promiscuous use of lime or careless fertilizer orders can mean money spent unwisely. Getting a soil sample is a job farmers can-do easily an)] quickly . . . for details contact your county agent’s office or other professional agricultural workers of the county. At present results can be had in about a (week's time but don’t put it off until the last minute. The State laboratories previously mentioned can handle only so many samples the rush season Will soon be upon them, and because of the .increased demand for fertilizer . . . Plan ahead and plan wisely.
