Sixty per cent of the estimated one million licensed operators of motor vehicles in Virginia must apply to the Division of Motor Vehicles for the renewal of" their operating privileges during this year, it was stated at the D.M.V. headquarters today.

Officials pointed out that for the first time since the enactment of the Virginia Operators and Chauffeurs License Act in 1932 all operators licenses are now expiring and will expire in the birth month of the licensee. The Division advises-’that all persons <who have in their possession a Virginia operators license that they exmine this license carefully for expiration date, as six out of every ten licenses now valid will expire this year.

The licensee’s birth month is the key to the expiration of his license and it would be advisable to apply^ to the Division for renewal not later than the first day of the licensee’s birthday month. As an alternative, the licensee may apply sixty days before the expiration of his permit.

One official pointed out that there are several ways that the licensee can assist the Division in expediting the issuance of his license and avoid delay in getting the renewed license in his hands.

The important steps to remember are:

1. Check carefully the expiration date of your present operators license. Do not apply for renewal more than sixty days before expiration date. Remember your permit will expire the last day of your birth month. J’"

2. Secure an application for renewal of your operators license. Renewal applications may be obtained from Division of Motor Vehicles License Agents, License Examiners or by writing direct to the Division of Motor Vehicles, P.O. Box 1298, Richmond, Virginia.

3. Make sure that your application.is executed in every detail, in . BLACK INK before mailing. Be positive that your signature appears at the top of your application.

4. It is essential that your correct Expiring Operators License number appears in the space provided on your application. This is the large number, located in the upper right hand corner of your expiring permit.

5. Do not'send your remittance in the form of cash, coin or stamps.

In this connection, Commissioner C. P. Joyner, Jr. pointed out that in View of the volume of work that must be handled by the Division, in connection with the renewal of more than six hundred thousand during the year, the coofieration of the motoring public is highly essential. He also laid stress on the fact that operators licenses are renewed at the discretion of the Division and any applicant for sue' a license may be required to undergo and pass ~ the regular operator’s examination before a renewal of his permit is granted.
