Recent TmU Reveal No Lime Needled
Several Rappahannock fanners have Recently taken advantage of this free service. They wanted to do the job right, yet not one want. «d to spend money unnecessarily. Here -are some of the cases. ^r:
(1) Henry Wood of Woodville has ten acres of land recently purchased which he wants to put in Orchard Crass . . . Ladino clover pasture. Ladino Clover calls for' a pH of 6.0-7.0 and 600-1000 lbs. of fertilizer. The soil from Henry's held had a pH of .6.5 thus it .was Just right in so far as sweetness* was concerned. Its calcium -and magnesium portent were each _ ‘good’ therefore he’ll not need ‘ lime now nor will any be need-, ed for the next 4 or 6 years. Phosphate content was “fair minus" while the potash content was ‘poor’. These results indicated a combination of fertilizers were needed, C'us, Mr. Wood will use 600 lbs. per acre of an 0-10-20 fertilizer before seed bed preparation to kick the potash up a bit as Ladino likes potash and 6-400 lbs. of borated 6-12-12 at seeding. He has spent his fertilizer dollar' most effectively and learned no lime was needed at all. i ^ :
