Basketball Tournament

To Be Held Feb. 23-24

District G basketball tournament for northern Virginia high schools will be held at Manassas Friday and Saturday, February 23 , and 24; according to D. C. Link, secretary-treasurer of the district. ' j The district is divided into east- . em and western divisions. The eastern division comprises the schools of Stafford, Quantico Post, Occoquan, Nokesville, Herndon, and Warrenton. The western division is made up of Marshall, Leesburg, Rappahannock, Lincoln, Aldie, and Lovettsville.

The undefeated girls’ team of Rappahannock High School has a good chance to be listed for a play-off in the finals at Manassas, where the winners will meet the champions of others districts to determine the ktate champions of Group III. '

The league games with Atdie last night and the games with Stafford tonight—both away from the home count — will end the league games for the season for Rappahannock High School. The boy's team has lost a few games and* does not stand as good a chance as the girls’ for a shot at the district championship.

Rappahannock Views with pride the new marker at the county seat, headed "Washington — The First of Them AH’*. On Friday, February 9, 1951 the 'Virginia Conservation Commission crewplaced a metal historical marker,; bearing this inscription:

"Washington, Virginia — The First of Them AH. Of the 28 Washington’s in the United States, the 'records very conclusively dieclose' that this town, 'The First Washington of aH,' was surveyed and platted by George Washington on tho 24th of July (old style), 1749. He was assisted by John Lonem and Kdwavd Corder ps .chainmen. By the General As- , eembly of Virginia it waa officially established as a town in 1796 and Incorporated in 1894. “I* In 1949 the Auxiliary to the Vol. Fire Co. as their contribution to the Bicentennial year of the ; Town of Washington, adopted aa their project the getting of a State Marker through the Conservation Condition for the "First Wash- ; Sngton of all**, The Committee for i the project ware Mrs. L.
