Housewives: If you have regularly employed household workers, you should be getting your “ducks in a row” for filing your first report on your employees. This report will be due after March 31 and before April 30. >
Household workers may be maids, laundresses, cooks, housekeepers, gardeners, janitors, furnacemen, jiandymen, practical nurses, governesses, valets, butlers, chauffeurs, and other work- * ers who perform services of a household nature in or about a pri. Vate home other than on a farm operated for profit. - Whether or not the change covering household workers gives oldage and survivors insurance to an ’ employee in your home, and wheather or not you .have an obligation as an employer, can be determined by reading the leaflet "Do You Have a Maid?”
In preparing this booklet, the Government bore in mind a statement made at a hearing before the Ways and Means Committee of the House of Representative when it was considering this amendment to the social security law. At that time, a (woman in favor of the measure said: “If you will just write your instructions so that we can understand them, you'll find us cooperative and willing to comply.” The booklet meets this request. It is available at Internal Revenue or Social Security offices and Post Offices everywhere. It contains a tear-off post card that you should fill out and mail to the Collector'of Internal Revenue, Richmond, Virginia, if it appears that your employee is covered by the new law.
