Each year, many apples ar« produced in Vriginia which «w not suitable to place on the market for regular consumer uses. These apples are still good apples, but merely fail to meet the highei grade requirements because of such reasons as size, color, shape, •or other minor defects. If allowed to reach the fresh market, these apples would lower the reputation of Virginia apples and cause a loss to the industry.
It has been suggested that it would be more profitable to the apple industry to dump these appies than to allow them to compete with the better grades of fruit on the open market. That may or may not be true, but even it it is true, it profits the industry more to use these apples for making various processed products where these socalled defects would not be of importance.
