Rappahannock county was formed from Culpeper back in the days of mud roads and no powered ve* ides. Now we have hard rood, cars, trucks, and buses. We have always kept close contact with Culpeper in all out business and many social arffsfrs. Why, ■ then, would it no' be reasonable for Rappahannock to rejoin Culpeper? The combination would still be smaller than Augusta and several other counties. The annual saving should be considerable. The new county of Culpeper would heed just one Court-House, Jail, Sheriff, Commonwealth Attorney, Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, Clerk, County Agent, Home Demonstration Agent, N u r s e, Welfare Board, Board of Supeyvisbrs, and P.M.A. Office. The saving would not be 100 per cent, but it should be enough to ease our tax burden somewhat, and to furnish better schools for our children without depriving us of any advantages that we now enjoy.
This County is just too small and too poor to do for its people all the things that it is trying to do how. At the present time we hold two distinctions:.(1) we have been losing population since about 1880 and, (2) we vote “irght” in National elections. Since neither of these distinctions helps us to pay our bills, they could both be given . up without harm.

Away From Home
Dear Joe:
It’s been sometime since you were promised a letter from the home county.
There have been little changes in Rappahannock, Joe, but you know that. You were raised here and you know how we don’t take quickly to change.
This winter has been rough, and iwhen we think of you fellows, it makes us ashamed that we are so comfortable in our warm homes.
Following a heavy rain recently we had a quick freeze, and you remember all those places in the fields where water would rise after a thunder-shower in the summer; well, they froze over before they could drain off. Almost every farm had a skating pond, made to order. ' '
