At the end of the first six months of the 1950-51 Better Sires Program sponsored by the Rappahannock Livestock Committee, of which J. Rodes Brown is chairman, a total of 51 registered sires are known to have been purchased by Rappahannock farmers.

It is reported that Culpeper farmers during November 16 to April 30, purchased more registered sires of the beef, swine, and sheep breeds in proportion to her livestock numbers than any other county in Virginia, however, Rappahannock farmers are expected to surpass them.
