Garden Club Receives
Two State Awards
During the annual meeting of the Virginia Federation of Garden clubs, held in Roanoke May 16, the Rappahannock Garden Club was awarded two ribbons, for flower show achievement. The Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs awarded the county club the blue ribbon and the National Council of Garden Clubs awarded the purple ribbon. These were the only ribbons awarded any individual garden club in the State for flower show achievement this year.
These ribbons were given for the show “Fun with Flowers’’ held in September 1950. Mrs. L. J. Turner was show chairman and Mrs. W. G. Pendleton prepared the book containing the report of the show. The club believes the success of this show was due to the combined effort of each member of the club and the loyal suppor of friends in the county.
The Rappahannock Garden Club -was organized in May 1949 and became a member of Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs in May 1950. This first “flower show was held when <the club was 16 months •old.
