It is amazing all the protection given us by agencies now. There’s a Bureau of Weights and Measures, sending men about to check on scales in stores to see that they give accurate measures, to check on gas tanks to see that you get all the gas you pay for, and they even check to see that the bottom of an apple basket isn’t packed with paper.
These men really have tales to tell. They found a meat-seller who didn’t resort to the old gag of “(weighing his thumb,” but placed an electric fan at a point where the “blow” from the fan would cause the scales to give him a oneounce advantage over the customer. The inspectors caught him.

About this time, some years
back, I was busily trying to get up all the required book reports, write-ups, and various other neglected
items of my school work, in one last, final effort to redeem my record sufficiently to get my name inscribed upon a high school diploma.
But I suppose times have chang-, ed. Youngsters in school now always have all their work done ahead of time, and never put off work until the final hour is upon them and they have to stay up
