ALREADY 25%, appropriately, of what you pay for a new car is Taxes—already your new car dealer is compelled to pass on to you a 3V2% car price increase recently established by the government —already another government regulation has compelled you to pay one-third down and limited your time-payments to fifteen months—and now a bill being considered by the Ways and Means Committee of Congress would increase the present 7% Federal Excise Tax on new cars to 20%. Already millions3of people who need cars in the conduct of their work are priced out of car ownership. This new tax threatens to increase the cost of evep the lowest-priced car beyond the reach of millions of additional potential buyers—and to increase the cost of larger cars as much as $334.20.
