Rappahannock County farmers maybe "as green as grass”—but they are smart at that.
That was the comment this week from Rappahannock, PMA county chairman, as he reviewed 1953 farm conservation plans which farmers have filed with his committee during recent weeks.
“There’s a strong trend on the part of local farmers to select ACP practice that call for seeding of grasses and legumes both for pasture and for cover crops,” he noted, "More pasture is strictly in line with our soil conservation objective, as well as with the Governor’s Pasture Program. With the prices of,meat and livestock at high levels and the demand expected to remain strong, it’s a smart farmer who converts grass into marketable products.”
