places the responsibility for formulating and carrying out an erosion control program squarely on the shoulders of local people. The success that has been achieved thus far in districts has in no small measure been due to the very excellent manner in which this responsibility has been assumed. Had it not been for the teamwork of Soil Conservation District Supervisors, cooperating farmers representatives of Agricultural Agencies and the many local organizations which have cooperated so well with this program, these very encouraging results could not have been attained. Noteworthy of the success of this kind of cooperative effort is found in the recently conducted pasture program in the State. This program which is contributing much to the conservation of our soil and water resources has received the full support of Virginia people and the results have been phenominal. As we focus our attention this week on the preservation of our soils, water, forests, and wildlife, I urge that you do not forget that the job of conserving and developing these resources is a continuous one. I appeal to tiie Agricultural Agencies of the -State and to the entire citizenship to examine the possibilities of stepping up the rate of conserving these resources that those who follow us may continue to point with pride to the words of our forefathers as they beheld the Virgin Coast of Virginia. They said of this great Commonwealth and I quote, “Heaven and Earth never consuired together to make a land better suited for man’s Habitation.^ May our inherited right to share in this acclai.mation never he lost.
