Feeder Calf Prices
Drop 33.8 Per Cent
The 804 feeder calves sold by the Rappahannock Angus Breeders Ass’n. at their 13th Annual Sale held at Front Royal Livestock Market on October 14, brought $63.97 less a head than in 1951, (13.81 less per pound weight) even though the quality was higher than a year ago. The sale average was $30.‘21 per cwt and compares favorably with reports from other 1952 sales. Production costs are believed to be higher than a year ago. Calves averaged 13 lbs. lighter per head than in 1951.
Although all Virginia sales have not been held as yet it is believed the Rappahannock Angus breeders will again top the state in quality. The official grading by the State Division of Markets shows that 96% of the calves graded feood or better with 76% grading Fancy and Choice. Last year the offering graded 90% Fancy, Choice and Good. If my belief hold^ frue for this year’s rating, Rappahannock , hasn’t been equaled, much less surpassed, in the quality of her feeder calves by a single feeder calf sale of
77.5%
