This creates another illusion, namely, that the citizens as a whole have a moral obligation to rob the “rich” and equalize property holdings.
The Commandment, “Thou shalt not steal,” is thereby abolished and stealing can actually be made to appear a Christian duty.
Yet it is actually against the laws of the United States for anyone to even try to prevent this intellectual pollution.
Against its potentially fatal effects America has but one antidote: the Christian decency and the moral strength of its citizens.
This situation gives new meaning to deTocqueville's warning: “If America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”
In order to resist the pleasant plausible, poisonous promise of something for nothing, it is not necessary that the people have a great fund of education in economics and political science.
Some of our most highly educated people are the most highly confused.
Common sense is enough to convince most honest persons that the way to get things is to produce things and that the accumulation and protection of productive private property is the only avenue to high production.
It is unlikely that the moral fibier of America will succumb to this intellectual germ warfare, but the terrifying effects of the disease should be so plain to everyone that everybody should make it his business to sound the warning wherever it may.be needed.
GARDEN CLUB MEETS
The Rappahannock Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, October 29 at the home of Mrs. C. R. Hite. This is expected to be a most interesting meeting, as Miss Dolly Hite will give a lecture on her European trip. Exhibit will be a mass arrangement of mums with other foliage permitted.
