Yesterday was “All Fool's Day” (which, I am well aware, should have been a holiday for most of us) and the usual season for pranks.
Why is there an April Fool Prank Day? An explanation has defied search. There is a probability that it came from France in the 16th century, when the calendar was corrected and the New Year was pushed back from the last of March to the first of January. When New Years Day came during the last week of March the celebrations lasted several days ending on April first. When the New Year was changed some people pretended to have New Year celebrations on the old date for the purpose of making fools of the people who had forgotten the change of the date.
In France a person who was fooled is called an “April Fish” because an April Fish is a very young fish and is so easily caught. In Scotland the April Fools are called “April Gowks.” A gowk is a silly bird that doesn't know enough to build a nest for itself. In India a fool is called “Huli Fool.” There is a festival
