In a telegram received by the Rappahannock News, Tuesday evening. Representative Burf P. Harriscon, assures the people of Rappahannock that he is seeking fair play on the closing of Post Offices in this vicinity. He has asked the Post Office Department to give careful consideration to objections raised by patrons of the Estes Post Office to plan9 for the closing of this office. (The department had only recently notified Mr. Harrison that it “contemplates the discontinuance” of the Post Office at Estes, but had given no proposed date for the closing.)
On Tuesday, Mr. Harrison received a petition signed by 51 patrons which he said he immediately placed before Assistant Postmaster General N. R. Abrams. Among points cited in the petition were the disadvantages of having to wait at the. roadside for the rural carrier to purchase stamps and money orders; fears of thefts from, the rural boxes, of packages received from mail order houses and inabiity to receive and dispatch packages and other mail at times convenient to the patrons.
