Now John does not give all He said from the cross. In the very beginning He prayed for the forgiveness of the very mob who placed Him upon the cross. Had He not done this none of that group could have ever been saved. But the love of God also shines forth in this prayer as probably no where else is so clearly revealed.
Then John tells us He addressed his mother and commends her over to the care of John, showing that He even in the midst o such suffering was conscious of her earthly needs. This also shows that He is conscious of ours also. Now some would take .this saying here to mean that He intended Mary to be elevated as the mother of the church and to be promenence above others. But there is no indication of such revealed inj the scripture that she is to have any more prominence than any other woman. Christ Himself is the head the church. He constantly spoke of it as “My Church,” and Paul specifically reveals Him as the Head. Now after Jesus had accomplished the process of redemption, He thought of Himself. He ask for water and then He cried with the voice of the Victor, “It is finished,” and yielded * up His Spirit. They did not take it from Him, but He yielded it up as
