Welfare Cases Increase Stales Superintendent
> A sharp increase in the number of public assistance cases during February was reported today by Mrs. M. Elizabeth Buntin, Superintendent of the Rappahannock Department of Public Welfare. Financial aid cases rose 495 to a total of 36,813 over the State, the highest number in several years. A year ago, the Superintendent . reported, there were 35,008 cases on the state’s public assistance rolls.
Largest increases, which were general throughout the state, were in Aid to Dependent Children and General Relief cases. One hundred & . twenty-two children’s aid cases were added to the total, ahd 307 more . general relief cases. Largest increases *were noted in the city of Richmond, and considerable increase in Southwest Virginia, where payments from , miners’ welfare funds have been discontinued. •
