One exasperated recipient of such unwanted mail threatened to lay bis case before a congressional subcommittee. Thrice he had 'politely asked that his name be removed from the mailing list of the offending vendor.
As a public service, please let as explain that accurate mailing ‘ lists of known buyers -of certain products are valuable property and are rented out. If you are a maker of something that fisher’ men might buy, you want a list of fishermen. The owner of the list won't sell it to you, but he or his broker will address your envelopes for you on his own premises. You never see the names or addresses. Your name might be on all the lists he rents, sight unseen, so you get three identical letters urging you to buy • salve to ward off mosquitoes.
Nothing can be dons about it since the U.S. Postoffice collects its price for delivering each letter. .The vendors hope to, be in business to stay. If you have achieved the prominence of being listed in Who’s Who, or have been accepted as a member of a prominent dub, you must aecept the consequences gracefully.
