Spend as heavily as possible on such items as a sofa bed, lounge chair, rug, spring and mattress. They are necessities and long-term investments. It is well to buy good, permanent storage units, such as a good dresser and chest that can be used in any room of the house.
Favor open stock rather than whole suites. Remember you can sleep just as well on a good mattress and spring on legs, or a frame, as on a bedstead. A secondhand or a ready-to-paint bureau will hold your clothing as well as a new one. Spend here, or substitute, as you- need to.
Avoid dining room suites. You may move and have no dining room. A sturdy drop leaf table and a chest of drawers can be used anywhere in the house should you mow.
