Raymond M. Johnson of Woodville, who has been employed part time with the Virginia Division of Forestry since 1948, was given full time status November 1, as Chief Forest Warden for Rappahannock County. -
In making the announcement last week, John Jackson, Piedmont District Forest Fire Chief, stated that Mr. Johnson’s duties include reforestation, fire suppression and control, timberland examination and marking, forestry management, disease spotting, and keeping fire trails in condition for fire service use. There are over 64,800 acres of privately owned timberland in Rappahannock.
A two-way radio in his forest service truck enables Mr. Johnson to communicate with the Red Oak fire tower, other area wardens and the district office in Charlottesville. He work closely with William Vemam, State Forester, in Warrenton.
Mr. Johnson is assisted when necessary by 16 local wardens and is closely associated with the six volunteer fire companies in this county.
Rappahannock is one of the 16 counties comprising the Piedmont District.
