The Covenant Eclipses Despair

God made a covenant with Noah. God’s token of faithfulness, the rainbow, stands to this day. Though the world was destroyed man had something to live for. God was the basis of life and hope.

The significance of a covenant becomes clearer in God’s covenant with Abraham. In this covenant the children of God have a blessing to share with the whole world. Staying alive is a realistic part of the covenant. Suicide is not our prerequisite. God has given us life, let Him take our lives. This is God’s initiative, not ours.

The covenant with Abraham continues to this day. If we take seriously the mission of God’s love for all people, we have a moral responsibility to do everything in our power to stay alive. What is expedient is not my responsibility. My responsibility is to declare the word of God which says, “You are not your own, you are bought with a price. So glorifv God in vour Body.”

As a Christian you have a moral obligation to live and to desire to live because the hope of the world is within you. Jesus Christ is the new covenant, his church is the new Israel. Whether one, one million or a hundred million survive a nuclear war, the Christian’s commission is the same. We have no choice in this matter. We are to declare
