Teachers Medal
Miss Luerena Zinn, a History teacher and guidance counselor at Rappahannock County High School, has been awarded the Valley Forge Classroom Teachers Medal, Superintendent of Schools O. A. Norton made the announcement during assembly Friday morning at the school. This award is designed to recognize classroom teachers throughout the United States who are doing exceptional work in teaching responsible citizenship and a better understanding of the American way of life. It is one of a number of awards by Freedom Founda. tions which honor individual organizations and schools. All nominations in the Valley Forge Classroom Teachers Medal program were received from the general public.
Mr. Dahlgren Speaks
At Republican Meet
At the meeting of Rappahannock Republicans held May 7 at the Amissville Fire Hall the new chairman Mr. Bernard Dahlgren was the main speaker. He spoke of the importance of the Republican vote, expressing alarm at the rising power of liberalism in this country. He expressed the opinion that President Johnson's budget as presented was not a true picture of the spending plans of his administration, as items are deleted or the monies already appropriated. The new Civil Rights Bill contains clauses that are shocking, including abolition of trial by jury in civil rights cases and the right given the Federal Government to dictate employment policies of businesses in the country. Mr. Dahlgren further stated that the situation in the United States is accompanied by a deterioration of our position throughout the world, noting the situations in South Viet Nam, Cuba, etc., attributing the breaking down of our alliances to lack of leadership.
