Compete for Awards
The youth of Rappahannock, operating under the name of Chi-Sigma, were offered three scholarships to a leadership summer camp. These scholarships were underwritten by the sponsoring Churches. , The award was offered on a competetive basis. Teams of three young people each, having selected their member^ their advisors, and their topic or theme were to compete against each other. On Sunday evening May 24th, the contest was won by the team number four, composed of: Ann Canon, Joan Lee and Carolyn Johnston. Mrs. Virginia Brock was their advisor. Their theme was a satire on Juvenile Delinquency and they portrayed their impressions of the attitudes, habits, dress, and vocabulary of the •delinquent," through the medium of a skit. Their entrance itself into the Trinity Church Parish Hall was dramatic, being escorted in by Trooper William Buntin, and being caught up in their roles of delinquents, surly rebellious, and hostile to all forms of law or order. The Judges who served were: Messers. Mary Botts Quaintance, Edna Moore, Mary Krause and Mr. T. Carlyle L©a, Jr. - ; - ' X siV ’;': 1 ' The underlying hope is that the winners will bring back to the youth of Rappahannock fresh understanding of their leadership role among their own fellow youth.
CORRECTION
The furnishings for a Sunday School room at Trinity Episcopal Church which were dedicated on May 17 in memory of James M. Settle were the gift of various friends, relatives and family survivors of James Minor Settle. The actual presentation was made on the doners* behalf by James Settle's brother Samuel B. Settle and accepted and dedicated on behalf of the Church by the Rector.
