Forty different farm mer and ladies and businessmer participated in the Extensior School held each Wednesday bight last month at the High School. The final session drev a party of five from Charlestown, West Va. while several from Bluemont came a nighi early and missed out. Local communities represented were Washington, Flini Hill, Ca6tleton, Sperryville, Huntly, Ami8sville, Boston, Woodville, and Viewtown. A survey of those attending the final session showed a decided majority rated the school as ‘excellent". All requested that a similar school be held next winter! We thank these people for their intelligent interest displayed as well as the many favorable comments. Some interesting points were brought out by all of the speak ers; To mention a few: Curtis Mast in giving a progress report on certain phases of beef cattle research made several noteworthy observations. Crossbred calves •showed a 5% faster growth rate with 10% higher liveabili ty than straight-breds.” Also he said "growth rate and size of rib eye in beef parcasses were 60% heritable". These are highly heritable genetic factors. In commenting on cow-size: Mr. Mast reported that, “if a 1200 pound cow produced a given net profit from a 500 pound calf then a cow weighing 1500 pounds would have to produce a 650 pound calf to be gfe equally profitable”.
