The Society is especially interested in the development of the Ch urches and Academies, how religion and education was provided to the jpeople. Judge Rayner Snead, as chairman, has started the collection of materials in these areas, and would be most grateful for any leads people may have on these subjects. The biggest discovery the Historical Society made during its first year is that Rappahannock County has had a far more interesting and a far richer history than most people living today realize. It will be the purpose of the approximately 200 members to work in various fields of study during the coming year to collect and coordinate the whole history still available to us. Perhaps the second most important discovery is a negative one - and a s a d one - that so much of this rich material is irretrievable, lost to us forever. So the aim of the Society is to search out what is still available and preserve it for our children, and our childrens’ children. We ask all who can to help in this worthy pursuit.
