Ray Cannon was by last week allowing me an opportunity to inquire about the Angus bull he bought at Culpeper. As usual Ray was ready to give the facts to back-up reports that he had gotten one of the best bulls at the sale. 'Kingdom Elivate* bred by a General Crane of Leesburg had a 2.48 lb. Average Daily Gain, a Type Score of 15 (low Fancy) and an Index of 156. Also his sire and dam had solid records themselves. “A be ran Elivate" had records of 77 of his offspring averaging a 2.07 lb. daily gain. Type Score 13.4 and Index of 131. The dam, "Wil-Son-Cos Blackcap Rosebud" has produced 4 calves with an A.D.G. of 2.26, Type of 14.2 and average Index of 144.
************ H. L. Manwaring has been consistant in sending in forage samples for analysis as a means of economic budgeting of feeds to his livestock. A series of such analysis also serves as a valuable guide to the farmer in knowing whether or nor crops are being harvested at the most desirable stages of maturity. Mr. Manwaring's corn silage analysis shows marked improvement: 1963 -18.5% TDN, 1964 - 27.1% TDN and 1965 Silage - 29.3% TDN. Handling corn silage is not a tireless job even with better than average equipment. This winter Mr. Manwaring's men and machines will be handling but 63 pounds erf silage to every 100 pounds handled three years ago meeting total digestible nutrient requirements of his livestock. V
