Statistical studies conduct ed by The National Foundation revealed birth defects to be the number two cause of death in this country — the next greatest “killer" after heart disease. Before and after birth they claim more lives than cancer and stroke combined. Mr. O’Connor summed up the grim statistics: -250,000 babies born defect ive every year in the U.S. alone. _
