Eligibility requirements for participation in the 1966 Cropland Adjustment Program have been outlined by H. S. Barksdale, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. Observing that the program was designed to help farmers divert cropland from surplus production to conservation uses under long-term agreements--five to 10 years--the Chairman said that participants would receive adjustment payments calculated to replace income from the crops which would otherwise be produced on the land. Most farms are eligible to take part in the CAP. A farm fulfills the qualifying requirement if the owner or owners sign an agreement and divert at least one entire acreage allotment such as a wheat allotment or the entire feed grain base. Additional cropland may then also be diverted. In fact, once the farm qualifies _all land currently used for crops on the farm may be diverted for payment.
