our packs weighed about 40 lbs. We hiked 73 miles altogether. We climbed mountains with elevations of 10 and 11 thousand feet. Our highest mountain was 11,711 feet. On Thursday, July 21, we hiked back into Philmont Camp Headquarters. After eating a delicious lunch, we began a cleaning detail. We washed clothes, scrubbed pans and cleaned tents. Then we checked all of our equipment into the Philmont staff. Next it was our turn to get clean. After a good hot shower, we went to the trading post and formed a line at the nearest CocoCola machine. After our refreshments, we returned to our sleeping quarters and everybody enjoyed a two hour rest period. After supper, we were given our Philmont patches at a campfire. On Friday, we left Philmont Elanch headed for Virginia. We tad intended on going up Pikes
