The next day we drove through the palmed desert . where we saw Indians and Indian huts. The Painted ' Desert was not as hot as the Mojave Desert. We spent that night in Amarillo, Texas i where we saw the first green grass and trees growing without irrigation for many days. Friday the 12th we drove all day and stayed in Tulsa, Okla., the oil capital of die world, and on Saturday we arrived in Bartlesville, Okla. Here we visited and spent die night with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Reid and two children. Mr. Reid is the son of Mrs. C. G. Reid of Washington, Va. dad was a school mate of Mom and Dad. They took us sightseeing. Sunday and Monday were spent in rapid travelthrougt Little Rock, Ark., into Tennessee where we passed through Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville. The day following we went through the Great Smoky Mountains (what a mess bumper to bumper traffic). Iii the Smokies we saw five bear. That night we were a few miles from Durham, N. C. And of course, no vacation is complete without a few days at Virginia Beach, so we arrived there Wednesday and stayed until Saturday. The end of the trail was reached Saturday afternoon when we arrived at Locust Shade, Amissvllle, Rappahannock County, Virginia.
