Training Recognized
A handsome plaque recogniz ing the Virginia Game Commission as one of the top 10 in the nation in hunter safety training was presented to Fxecutive Director Chester F. Phelps, January 27, by Governor Mills F. Godwin in behalf of the International Association of Game, Fish and conservation Commissioners and the National R ifle Association, sponsors of the Award. Commission Safety Officer James N. Kerrick and Franklin F. Orth of the National Rifle Association were present at the Award Ceremony in the Governor’s office.
Virginia's Hunter Safety pro gram was judged against programs sponsored in most of the 50 states by a committee of the International Association. The National Rifle Association, co-sponsors of most state programs, provided the Award plaques. Virginia also received recognition recently from the NR A for having trained its 25,000th hunter.
