Local Artists Win in
Culpeper Art Show
Artists from Rappahannock County who received awards for exhibits at the Culpeper Art Fair held Saturday and Sunday were: Mrs. James Smith who was awarded six ribbons, three for photography and three for paintings. Her photograph, “The Old Osage Tree* took a blue ribbon and she received two white ribbons for “Nip 'n Tuck* and “Butterflies Delight.* Her therpe painting, “Oliver’s Retreat* netted a yellow ribbon, her watercolor, “Grandma’s Butter Factory,* a white ribbon and her oil “Peyton House,* a white. Mr6. J. L. Kilby’s oil painting, “Martha,* received a red ribbon and her watercolor portrait, “Mary Magdalene at the Cross,* a yellow. Mrs. Charles Estes was awarded a white ribbon for her oil portrait, “Mountain Woman." Other Rappahannock artists who exhibited in the Art Fair were Joseph C. Carter, Mrs. Stewart Butler, Arthur Cheatham, Mrs. E. N. Montague and Mrs. Carter White. There were 600 entries from 25 Virginia communities including Richmond, Arlington, and Falls Church. Larry Hackley of Amissville received honorable mention for “The Alley*; collage and for an etching.
