The second most important source of seedlings was the Continental Can Company nursery in Chesterfield County, which produced 11,621, XX). The total was rounded out by the purchase of 3,437,000 seedlings from the North Caro lina Department of Conservation and 46,000from West Virginia, with 160,000 being obtained from a TVA nursery in Tennessee, 153,000 from a USFS nursery in Mississippi, and 123,000from industry nurseries in North Carolina. Seedlings were planted ill every county in Virginia except Arlington; and additionally, in the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, and Virginia Beach. The leading tree planting county was Buckingham, with a total of 3,005 M to its credit. Second place honors went to King and Queen, with 2,688 M; followed by Spotsylvania, with 2,414 M; Brunswick, with 2,334 M; and D in w id die, with 1,716 M. Others in the top ten were Nottoway, 1,689 M; Louisa, 1,600 M; Chesterfield, 1,552; Charlotte, 1,513 M; and Essex, 1,506 M. In Rappahannock the total planted was 73,500seedlings.
