Then for those who still haven’t burnt up enough shells, the season will reopen December 18 and end at sunset January 6, 1968. Not far away is our early squirrel season. \ probably crisp dawn of October 2 will find many hunters, young and old, out in the hickory groves looking for a flick of a bushy gray tail and listening for the ;“rain* of cuttings. Though the i population of Mr. Gray seems to be down, let’s hope we will reap the fruits of a sound squirrel management practice in Rappahannock County which does not allow too early a season. It is hoped that we will see by the first of October, as compared to the first of September, an obvious increase in young squirrels out of the nest.
