Town Council Gives
Nod To ABC Store
Judge T. C. Lea,Jr.appeared before the Town Council of Washington at it’s regular September meeting on Tuesday seeking support for locating a State A.B.C. Package Store in his store building on Gay Street. He stated that the County Board of Supervisors tad gone on record in support of the store and that the local businesses were in whole hearted support and that very little opposition had been expressed. The main argument for getting ttie store at this time was that it would provide three well paying jobs within the town in addition to adding a needed service within the county. After due discussion of the pro and cons of a local liquor store the vote was four in support and 1 opposed. There were no citizens present either in support or opposition of the question. September is the beginning of the fiscal year for the Town of Washington and a $3,000 budget was adopted. This is within the annual income and there fore no property taxes were levied. It was voted to use the necessary funds from the savings account to retire 10 water bonds. The surplus each year has been put in savings forj this purpose.
