Stokes Celebrates 50
Years of Business
The Stokes Furniture Store in P'ront Royal is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The store which was founded and is owned by Edward H. Stokes, now occupies a fullacreand is located at Chester and Main Streets. The anniversary celebration begins today. Mr. Stokes has been a merchant since 1913. At that time he opened a notions store in Front Royal. In a few years he turned his business to retailing furniture and since that time the store has expanded steadily. The average number of employees at the store has been 12 to 15 and sometimes is as higji as 20. A'company spokesman said they attribute the growth of the business to improvement of lines carried and service rendered the public, and to the enlargement of floor space which is now over an acre of display area. Mr. Stokes expressed his gratitude to his numerous customers over the years who have been faithful and to the ever increasing new ones. In addition to the local customers, they come from surrounding counties and as far as Maryland, West Virginia and the metropolitan area.
